Stars exercise Tippett's contract one year

The Dallas Stars extended coach Dave Tippett's contract through the 2008 season after exercising a one-year option Monday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Stars, in the fourth season under Tippett, are 48-20-3 and in second place in the Western Conference. Since being named head coach in 2002, Tippett's record of 135-68-30 is the NHL's best among active coaches.
